Payments are staggered across three main days, with a fourth day added for beneficiaries who need to complete a grant review or eLife Certification. This keeps queues shorter at pay points, ATMs, and retailers such as Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer, and Checkers.

The War Veterans Grant and Grant-in-Aid are normally paid together with the Older Persons Grant cycle, since Grant-in-Aid is a top-up paid alongside an existing grant. If you receive one of these grants, expect your money on the same day as the underlying grant it is linked to.

Full SASSA payment schedule for 2026/2027

National Treasury approved this year's schedule on 20 March 2026. SASSA sticks to the same order every month: Older Persons Grants first, then Disability Grants, then Child Support, Foster Care and Care Dependency Grants. A fourth "exception" date is set aside most months for beneficiaries flagged for a review or eLife Certification. Save this table so you always know when to expect your money.

The SRD R370 grant is not included in this table because it does not follow a fixed calendar date. SASSA processes SRD payments in batches, usually in the last week of each month, and your personal pay date only appears once your monthly application is approved. Always confirm your specific date at srd.sassa.gov.za rather than relying on the schedule above for SRD.

Dates can shift slightly if SASSA adjusts the calendar around a public holiday or a systems issue, so treat this table as a planning guide and confirm the current month's dates at the top of this page or on sassa.gov.za before making firm plans, especially around school fees, rent, or a bond repayment due date.

Older Persons Grant payment date

If you have a SASSA gold card, a Postbank Black Card, or a linked bank account, your payment will be available from 4 August. You do not need to do anything extra to receive it. The money stays in your account or on your card until you need it, so there is no rush to withdraw it on the first day.

If your Older Persons Grant has not arrived by 6 August, phone SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 or visit your nearest SASSA local office in your province, whether you're in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, the Western Cape, or elsewhere.

Disability Grant payment date

Disability Grant recipients whose grant is due for a medical review should keep their documentation up to date. A missed review can lead to a suspended payment, so respond to any SASSA notification as soon as you get it.

The rand amount you receive is the same whether you live in a metro like Johannesburg or a rural area in Limpopo or the Eastern Cape. SASSA does not adjust grant amounts by province.

Child Support, Foster Care and Care Dependency Grant dates

If you are a caregiver for more than one child, you receive one combined payment covering all approved children on that date. A newly approved child may only be added to your payment in the following month, since SASSA needs time to process the update.

Caregivers who qualify for the child support top-up, paid to orphans or children in kinship care, receive this extra amount together with the standard grant on the same date.

The fourth payment day: grant reviews and eLife Certification

SASSA introduced this fourth day because a portion of beneficiaries were confused when their payment did not arrive during the usual three-day window, even after receiving a notification. SASSA National Spokesperson Dr Paseka Letsatsi has explained that this pattern repeats every month, and July 2026 followed the same structure, with reviews paid on 7 July.

If your grant is paid on 7 August, you are expected to visit your nearest SASSA office to complete the review. Take your South African ID and any documents listed in your SASSA notification. Ignoring the review can lead to your grant being suspended, and eventually cancelled if the issue is not resolved.

SASSA reviews are carried out under Regulation 30 and Section 14(5) of the Social Assistance Act of 2004. The agency cross-checks bank records, income, and, where relevant, information from the South African Revenue Service and credit bureaus, to confirm you still qualify.

Never send your ID number, banking PIN, or password to anyone claiming to represent SASSA over WhatsApp or Facebook. SASSA staff will never ask for your PIN.

SRD R370 grant payment dates

Your exact SRD payment date depends on your batch number, your bank, and how SASSA has grouped applications for that month. This means two people can be approved for the same month but paid on different days.

• Bank account: usually the fastest option, with funds reflecting one to three business days after your batch is processed.
• Retail pay point: Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer, and Checkers process SRD payments in batches, which can take longer than a bank deposit.
• Post Office: available once SASSA sends you an SMS confirming your payment is ready for collection.

Rather than checking every day, confirm your status at srd.sassa.gov.za or via WhatsApp on 082 046 8553, and only travel to a pay point once your status shows "Approved" or "Payment in Progress" for August 2026.

SASSA grant amounts for August 2026

National Treasury confirmed these increases in the February 2026 Budget Speech. Seven of the eight main SASSA grants received an increase, while the SRD R370 grant was kept at the same amount for a third year running.

These are the amounts every eligible beneficiary should see reflected automatically. You do not need to reapply or visit a SASSA office to get the new rate. National Women's Day and your August payment

Because the public holiday sits between the permanent grant payment window and the SRD batch window later in the month, most beneficiaries won't see any real disruption. If you plan to withdraw cash from an ATM, the Post Office, or a retail store around 9 August, expect longer queues and slightly slower service than usual.

Postbank Gold Card to Black Card deadline

After the deadline, Gold Cards will stop working, and anyone without a Black Card will need to get one before they can access their grant again. The replacement is free of charge. You can collect a Black Card at any Postbank service point inside participating retailers, including Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer, and Spar, in any province, not just where your grant was approved.

Bring a valid ID or temporary ID document when you go to collect your card. Dial *120*355# to find your nearest card collection point. Any balance on your old Gold Card carries over automatically to the new Black Card.

Be alert for scams. A genuine Postbank Black Card has "Postbank" printed on the front, and Postbank staff will never ask you to sign a form to receive it. If someone asks you to complete or sign paperwork for a "new SASSA card," do not hand over your details, and report it to Postbank on 0800 5354 55.

How to check your SASSA payment status

1. For SRD R370: go to srd.sassa.gov.za and log in with your ID number and cell phone number to see your status and pay date.
2. For SRD via WhatsApp: send a message to 082 046 8553 and follow the prompts.
3. For all other grants: call the SASSA toll-free line on 0800 60 10 11.
4. Check your bank app or SASSA card balance directly once your grant's payment date has passed.
