Why Your SASSA R350 Grant Was Declined
These are the six most common reasons for a declined SRD application — and exactly how to fix each one.
Income Too High
Your household income is above R624 per month. SASSA checks this through SARS records.
Fix: Reapply if your income drops below R624. Include updated bank statements as proof.
Receiving Another SASSA Grant
You are getting an Old Age, Disability, or Child Support grant.
Fix: You cannot receive both. You must choose one grant to keep.
Active UIF Claim
The UIF system shows you are receiving unemployment benefits.
Fix: Wait until your UIF payments end completely, then reapply.
ID Verification Failed
Your ID details do not match the Home Affairs database.
Fix: Visit your nearest SASSA office with your ID book to update your details.
Wrong Banking Details
Your bank account number is incorrect or the account is closed.
Fix: Update your banking details at srd.sassa.gov.za, or switch to Post Office collection.
NSFAS Funding Detected
You are receiving NSFAS student allowances.
Fix: NSFAS students do not qualify. Reapply after you finish studying if your income drops below R624.

SRD Grant Continues Indefinitely — SONA 2026
At the State of the Nation Address on 12 February 2026, President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed the R370 SRD grant will continue indefinitely. The previous end date of March 2027 no longer applies.
However, the grant is being redesigned in 2026. The new system will link payments to job-seeking activities, skills training, and productive activity. This is aimed at creating a pathway from grant dependency to employment.
✅ What stays the same
- R370 monthly amount (for now)
- Grant continues indefinitely
- March 2027 deadline removed
- For unemployed South Africans aged 18–60
- No reapplication needed if you are already approved
🔄 What is changing
- New employment-seeking requirements
- Skills development participation
- Links to work opportunity programmes
- Terminology: "income support grant" (not "basic income grant")
- Full details still being confirmed

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check my SASSA status for R350 payment dates?
The quickest way is to dial *120*3227# from your registered phone — it is free and takes less than 30 seconds. You can also visit srd.sassa.gov.za, WhatsApp 082 046 8553, or call 0800 60 10 11 (toll-free, Mon–Fri 8am–4pm). You will need your South African ID number and the phone number you used when you applied.
When is the SASSA R370 payment date for April 2026?
SASSA is processing April 2026 SRD grant payments from 23–30 April 2026. Funds take 24–48 hours to reflect in your bank account. Post Office collection is available from 3 days after payment is processed.
Why is my SASSA R350 status showing "pending"?
Pending means SASSA is cross-checking your information with Home Affairs, SARS and UIF records. This is normal and usually takes 7–14 days. You do not need to do anything. Check your status again in one week.
Can I check my R350 status without an ID number?
No. Your South African ID number is required for all status checks. For the online portal, you also need the phone number you used when you applied.
Do I need to reapply for the R350 grant every month?
No. If you are approved, payments continue automatically. SASSA checks your eligibility monthly against other databases. If your situation changes — for example your income increases or you start receiving UIF — payments may stop automatically.
How long does an R350 grant appeal take?
Appeals take 30–60 days to process. You will receive an SMS or email when a decision is made. You can check your appeal status using *120*3227# and selecting "Check Appeal Status". You have 90 days from your decline date to submit an appeal.
What if my SASSA status says "Application not found"?
This means your ID number is not in the system. Double-check that you are using the correct ID number. If you are sure it is correct, your original application may not have submitted properly. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za and submit a new application.
How do I change from bank payment to Post Office collection?
Log in to srd.sassa.gov.za with your ID number. Go to "Payment Methods" and select "Post Office". Save your changes. Your next payment will then be available at any Post Office branch using your ID book.
Can I get the R350 grant if I work part-time?
Yes — as long as your total household income is less than R624 per month. SASSA verifies this with SARS and UIF. Keep your payslips as proof in case you need to appeal.
What happens if I miss collecting my SASSA payment?
You have 3 months to collect a Post Office payment before it expires and returns to SASSA. Bank payments that fail also expire after 3 months if not corrected. Update your banking details immediately if a payment fails.
Is the SASSA R350 grant going up in 2026?
The grant increased from R350 to R370 in October 2023 and remains at R370. The National Budget 2026 did not announce a further increase for the SRD grant. The grant is being redesigned — any amount changes will be announced by the Minister of Social Development.
